10 Community Service Opportunities

1. ACADEMIC ASSISTANCE VOLUNTEER
THE GUIDANCE CENTER
15601 Northline Road ~ Southgate, MI 48195
Min. age: 18
The Guidance Center's school based department provides academic assistance to youth in the downriver area. Academic assistance is available to youth enrolled in guidance center programs as well as at-risk youth in the downriver area.
Volunteers in this program provide one-on-one tutoring to multiple middle school youth (that is, the volunteer would hop from student to student throughout the tutoring time on a need basis). The volunteer may also aid in the flow of skill building activities to further help students develop positive study skills (the volunteer will not have to prepare the activity, just simply monitor the students and help in the execution). We especially need volunteers who can assist students with geometry or Spanish language.
Academic Assistance is available to students Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 during the school year.

Can you cook? Do you like making meals for a group? The weekend is relaxing for most of us, but for people living at Camp Take Notice the weekend means fewer meals. Organizations that host free meals for people who are homeless or hungry are open on weekdays, but often closed on weekends. Would you be willing to cook a meal for 25 on a Saturday or Sunday and bring it to Camp? Or could you gather a group of friends and do it together? This volunteer opportunity gives you a chance to meet campers and serve people directly. It can be done be an individual or a group. It is a limited time commitment as it is a one time project. If you wish to make this a family event, and want to bring young children with you, please ensure you have enough adults to continually supervise them while they are at Camp.
